Remedy For Sinus Problem
Most people don’t know what to do when your Sinuses have problems. Should you go to the doctor? Should you wait it out hoping that the problems will go away? Should you try and treat the condition yourself? Should you take a lot of vitamin C? What exactly should you do.
The first step is to analyze what exactly is your problem. Do you in fact have a Sinus problem? The first thing to help you decide is how long have you had the problem. Are the symptoms you are living with just a cold or could it be more? Did you just get over a cold? Have your symptoms been bothering you for more than a week? Have they gotten better?
If you have had symptoms for less than a week, chances are right now all you have is a cold. If you find that your cold symptoms are no better in ten to twelve days then there is a good chance you now have a sinus infection.
If you have had a cold, the symptoms have mostly gone away but you have some nagging symptoms that just won’t go away, you probably have a sinus infection. If you have cold like symptoms and they are always hanging on, they never seem to go away you likely have a chronic sinus infection.
If you suspect you have a sinus infection you should seek help from your medical professional. You should not ignore it at this stage. Your professional should be able to give you a definite diagnosis and tell you specifically if he suspects a sinus infection. He will have you get a ct scan in order to absolutely be sure of the diagnoses. If he does diagnose you with a sinus infection, you will most likely get a prescription for antibiotics. This is OK if you have not had the same diagnosis and treatment three times in the past year.
If you have had this problem frequently then antibiotics may not be the answer this time. You need to discuss with your doctor the fact that this keeps repeating and the same treatment only seems to be a temporary fix. Ask what alternative treatments he could suggest.
Once your diagnosis is made you need to be very vigilant about changing your environment to promote healing of your sinuses. That means you need to keep yourself hydrated in more ways then one. First you need to hydrate your environment specifically. Make sure the humidity is around 40 to 50 percent.
Secondly you need to keep your body hydrated. Drink plenty of water. Don’t drink pop or soda or coffee, mostly water. Don’t use ice cold water either. Hydrate yourself with water that isn’t too much colder than room temperature.
Thirdly you need to hydrate your mucous membranes directly. Use a saline spray you can purchase at the drug store. If you prefer, you can frigate your nasal and sinus passages directly with the use of a neti pot. You can use steam to hydrate your sinuses also. Use steam from hot water in a pot or you can opt to just stand in the shower and let hot water run on your face and nose.
Once you suspect you really have a sinus infection seek help from you medical professional. Follow his advice but bring up any issues and questions you may have. If this is a familiar pattern, let him know of your concerns and discuss with your professional alternative treatments that may be beneficial. Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate again your body, your environment and specifically your sinuses.
